| Kisite-Mpunguti marine park | Worth a full day. Dhow south to the marine park, good snorkelling, dolphins common but never promised. Usually combined with lunch on Wasini. |
| Diving the reef | Good rather than world-class, and a fine place to learn — several long-established schools. Watamu is better if diving is the point of the trip. |
| Kitesurfing | Genuinely good in the windy months, roughly June to September. Schools on the main stretch teach beginners. |
| A dhow sunset cruise | Lovely, gentle, and every hotel books one. Do it once. |
| Shimba Hills National Reserve | Half a day inland — coastal forest, sable antelope, Sheldrick Falls. Pleasant. Not a safari, and do not let anyone tell you it is. |
| Colobus Conservation | A short, genuinely interesting visit about the local colobus monkeys and the work to protect them. |
| Camel ride on the sand | A photograph, not a day out. Fine for ten minutes. |
| Glass-bottom boat | Usually the low-effort version of a snorkelling trip. Go snorkelling instead if you can swim. |
The honest advice
Most people arrive at Diani after four or five early mornings on safari and book three excursions in a panic about wasting the beach. Then they cancel two of them.
Book one thing — Kisite is the one we would pick — and leave the rest of the days empty. The beach half exists so that the safari half does not send you home exhausted.
