Location
Diani is not one beach
Seventeen kilometres of it, and the stretch you pick changes the holiday more than the hotel does.

| Stretch | Character | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| North, towards Tiwi | Quieter, fewer hotels, more private villas | Groups taking a whole house; people who want space |
| Central Diani | The main strip — most hotels, the restaurants, dive shops and the airstrip | First visits, families, anyone who wants to walk to dinner |
| Galu / south Diani | Wider sand, calmer, fewer people, a short drive to the restaurants | Couples, longer stays, light sleepers |
| Far south, towards Msambweni | Remote and boutique, very quiet | Honeymoons, and people who will not be leaving the hotel |
What actually differs
- How much water you get at low tide. Varies along the beach and is rarely mentioned by hotels. Ask us.
- Whether you can walk to dinner. Central yes, Galu and south no — you will be taking tuk-tuks or the hotel car.
- Beach vendors. More present on the central strip. Friendly, persistent, and a matter of taste.
- Distance to the airstrip. Diani has its own, which matters if you are flying in from the Mara.
- Whether there is a reef break in front. Affects swimming and how the sand behaves.
Kinds of place to stay
- Large resorts — pools, kids’ clubs, several restaurants, often all-inclusive. The practical family choice.
- Small boutique hotels — a dozen rooms, better food, no kids’ club. Best for couples.
- Private villas with staff — a cook and a housekeeper, your own pool. Excellent value for six or eight people.
- Simple guesthouses — inexpensive, usually a short walk back from the sand.
Why we do not list hotel names here
Because coastal hotels change hands, close for refurbishment and change standard faster than any page can track, and a list that is wrong is worse than no list.
We name specific hotels in your quote, chosen for your dates, your party and — genuinely — the tide times while you are there.
