When to come, and when not to
There is one window we would actively steer you away from, which is more than we will say about most months in Kenya.

| December – February | Hot, humid, clear | Calm, warm | Excellent. Busiest and priciest over Christmas and New Year. |
| March | Very hot, building humidity | Calm | Good, and quieter than the Christmas peak. |
| April – May | Long rains, heavy | Churned up | Avoid. Many hotels close or run skeleton service. |
| June – August | Cooler, dry, windy | Choppier outside the reef | Very good. The windy months — best for kitesurfing. |
| September – October | Warming, dry, calmer | Calm and clear | Arguably the best of the year, and it overlaps the safari peak. |
| November | Short rains — brief afternoon storms | Mostly calm | Good value, quiet, rarely disruptive. |
The convenient overlap
June to October is both the dry, reliable season at Diani and the peak safari season inland, with the migration in the Masai Mara from July. That makes it the obvious window for a bush-and-beach trip — and the most expensive one for both halves.
The value window
Late January and February: hot, clear and calm on the coast, and excellent inland for resident predators at a fraction of peak prices. If your dates are flexible and the migration is not the point, this is where your money goes furthest.
April and May, plainly
The long rains are heavy on this coast. Hotels close, boats stop going out, and the sea is churned up. It is cheap for a reason. We will book it if you insist, and we will tell you first.
